Rahul Bose garnered widespread criticism when he made a statement regarding the Nirbhaya rape case. The actor said that the rapists should be given a chance to 'reform' if they show genuine remorse and guilt for their heinous act. Even after media backlash, Bose refused to apologize for his comments.

Unlike other families where fathers push their kids towards sports, Bose was instead introduced to Rugby and Boxing by his mother. Additionally, he played Cricket under the guidance of late cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi.  Out of all the above-mentioned sports, Bose chose Rugby. As a part of the Indian National Rugby team, he even participated in Asian Rugby Football Union Championship in 1998.  His first acting role came at the age of 6, when he played the lead in his school play- Tom, the Piper's Son.  In the year 2007, he adopted six children from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He even raised INR 2.4 million for their education and upbringing.  In order to prepare for his role as a roving water vendor for the film Split Wide Open (1998), Bose observed a drug-dealer in a Mumbai slum for 2 weeks. For this film, he was awarded the Silver Screen Award for Best Asian Actor at the 2000 Singapore International Film Festival.  As a social activist, he has participated in a number of National and Global concerns like Narmada Bacho Andolan, 2004 World Youth Peace Summit, Copenhagen World Climate Change Summit (2009), etc.  After passing school, Bose applied to 18 different universities in the United States. However, he was rejected each time.  Rahul Bose is an all-rounder from a tender age. From acting to sports, Bose has excelled in every field he has chosen.  After his mother's demise, Bose started looking for a full-time job.
