Following her train incident on 12 April 2011, an inquiry by the police into the incident threw her version of the accident into doubt. Police claimed that it was a suicide attempt by her. However, contrary to the police claim the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court ordered Indian Railways to pay a compensation of ₹500,000 to Arunima.
Arunima's claim for being a national level Volleyball player became doubtful when a senior SAI official said that based on certificates provided by Arunima's parent, it can be said that Arunima played at the national level but whether she had the status of a national player on a defined level, was yet to be figured out by department and ministry.
In December 2017, she denied entry into Ujjain Mahakal temple, authorities said dress code needed to be followed in sanctum sanctorum, which she hadn't follow.
