While he was in college, he wrote plays for intercollegiate competitions.  Apart from being a great actor, writer & director, Makarand Deshpande is also a good singer and has sung the songs for several films like 'Jungle' (2000), 'Ek Aur Visphot' (2002), 'Supari' (2003), and 'Naach' (2004).  He has also released a book titled 'Ansh Theatre Group.'
